Note 01 — Why We Lead with a Humectant, Not a Butter

Handvela's formulation brief starts with a light daytime feel and a routine people want to repeat after washing. Humectants and emollients are part of that target. This is a design choice, not evidence that humectant-led creams outperform butter-containing products or disappear in a set number of seconds.

/What a humectant does

Glycerin helps bind water in the outer skin. Emollients such as squalane soften skin; occlusive ingredients help reduce moisture loss. These roles can overlap, and a useful moisturizer may combine them. Humectants alone do not guarantee a matte or residue-free finish.

/Why the whole formula matters

Dose, concentration, texture system, rub-in and skin condition all affect how a cream feels. A product with butter can feel comfortable during the day; a humectant-rich cream can feel tacky. We do not exclude petrolatum, lanolin, waxes or butters from consideration as a category. Our brief simply takes a different formulation route.

/The intended Handvela balance

The target combines 1% ectoin with glycerin, panthenol, niacinamide, squalane, emollient esters and dimethicone. Dimethicone can condition skin and reduce water loss; it does not prove fast absorption, zero transfer or compatibility with gloves or devices. Final manufactured INCI and performance need confirmation. No controlled comparison shows that this target is better than a cheaper established cream.
