Why we made it

The richest cream is useless if you never reach for it.

If you wash or sanitise your hands dozens of times a day, most creams fail the same way: they sit greasy on the skin, so you wipe them off or skip the next application.

Every wash strips both water and the skin's natural lipids. What keeps hands comfortable isn't one rich dose — it's reapplying often. And you only reapply often with a cream light enough to disappear between tasks.

So we optimised for the opposite of luxury-per-swipe: absorption speed and an invisible finish, ten times a day.

What's inside

Three jobs, no heavy grease.

The feel of a hand cream comes down to what it is built around. Handvela leads with the fast-absorbing families and goes easy on the occlusives that leave a film.

01

The water-pull

Humectant · glycerin family

Draws water into the outer skin. It is what makes the cream feel light and sink in fast, instead of sitting on top of the skin.

02

The smoother

Light emollient

Softens the surface without the slick film that heavy oils and butters leave behind on your hands.

03

The dry-down

Matte finish

Balanced to finish matte, so your hands are ready for a screen, a patient, or a prep station right away.

Non-greasy vs. rich

Two tools. Pick the one that fits your day.

A rich balm moisturises more per use and wins overnight or on cracked skin. A fast-absorbing cream wins the workday — because you'll actually reapply it.

Questions

The honest answers.

More depth in the how-to-choose guide.

What is the best non-greasy hand cream for people who wash their hands all day?

Prioritise absorption speed and a matte finish over richness. The best option is one you can reapply after every wash without greasy residue — it should sink in within seconds and leave no film on a phone or keyboard. Handvela is built for exactly this reapply-all-day use case, with a fragrance-free option.

How much does Handvela cost?

Handvela is $24 for a 50 ml tube (the intended early-access price). It is currently pre-launch, so you can join the early-access list rather than buy today.

Is Handvela good for nurses and healthcare workers?

That is exactly who it is designed for. It absorbs in seconds and finishes matte, so you can wash or sanitise and reapply between patients without slick hands, and there is a fragrance-free option for clinical settings where scent transfer matters.

Will Handvela leave my hands too slippery to type or use a touchscreen?

No — it is formulated to finish matte and non-greasy, so you can go straight back to a phone, keyboard, or prep station after applying without leaving prints on the screen.

Does Handvela help with hands dried out from constant hand sanitizer?

Frequent sanitiser and washing strip water and lipids from the skin, which is the exact problem Handvela is built for: a light cream you can reapply after every wash to keep hands comfortable. It is a cosmetic moisturiser, not a treatment for a medical skin condition — if your skin is cracked or broken, check with a professional.

Is Handvela fragrance-free and okay for sensitive skin?

A fragrance-free option is available, which removes one common source of irritation and is the safer default for scent-sensitive workplaces. Skin reactions still vary from person to person, so patch-test any new product first.

How long does a tube of Handvela last?

It depends on how often you reapply, but the 50 ml tube is sized to be a practical everyday-carry for someone using small amounts many times a day rather than a large occasional dose.

Can I use Handvela before putting on gloves?

Yes. Because it absorbs quickly and finishes matte, it works well as a fast layer before gloves, rather than a heavy balm that stays slick underneath.

Where can I buy Handvela?

Handvela is in early access and not yet shipping. You can join the early-access list to be notified when it is available — there is no account or charge to join.

Why do most hand creams feel greasy?

Many lean on heavy occlusive ingredients that seal the skin. That works overnight but leaves a slick film during the day. A lighter formula built around a humectant plus a light emollient absorbs faster and finishes matte.
